The National Sixth Form Careers Summit is a special one-day event for schools & sixth form colleges across the UK. It will provide the very latest news, information and guidance on the career prospects for sixth-formers who go on to university – or begin a degree apprenticeship – after completing their sixth form studies.

Please note that the Summit is being held later than originally planned, on Monday 5th October.

Why is the Summit being held?

Despite record numbers of school-leavers continuing to apply for places at university, graduate vacancies at the UK’s leading employers have been cut by almost a quarter over the past three years.

And official Government employment data shows that fewer than half of new graduates now find a full-time graduate-level job within 15 months of graduation.

Today's sixth-formers are facing the most difficult graduate job market in a generation and need to choose the right course, the right university – or the right degree apprenticeship – to be successful in securing graduate employment at the end of their degree.

Who should attend the Summit?

The Summit will bring together Heads of Sixth Form, Directors of University Admissions and Heads of Careers from schools & sixth form colleges around the country – to meet graduate & degree apprenticeship employers from a wide range of professions and occupations, recruitment experts and careers advisers.

What will the Summit cover?

Highlights from the Summit programme include:

  • expert advice from the UK’s top recruiters on how sixth form school-leavers can make the most of university, gain essential work experience, develop the right employability skills, and prepare to apply for their first graduate job
  • the latest analysis of today’s highly-competitive graduate job market, including new research on the career plans & expectations of final year university students from the 'Class of 2026’
  • full details of the degree apprenticeships now available to sixth form school-leavers, how and when to apply for places on employers’ apprenticeship programmes, and the training & qualifications on offer
  • lively conference panels with current university students, recent graduates and degree apprentices, discussing their experiences of job hunting, starting work with their first employer, and what they wished they’d known before leaving school or sixth form college
  • extensive opportunities throughout the day for networking with the graduate & apprenticeship recruitment teams from each of the employers participating in the event
